How many inches in depth is needed for an existing inside mount?

It all depends on what kind of shade you choose.

If you want to go with an open roll shade, you will need 2.5;

if you want to use a 3" fascia, you will need 3.5;

for a 5" fascia or an open roll day/night roller, you will need 5.5"
